Common side effects

Prescription cannabinoid therapies may cause drowsiness, fatigue, changes in appetite, diarrhea, and dry mouth. Effects vary by patient, dose, and formulation.

Drug interaction risk

CBD can affect how the body metabolizes other medications through cytochrome P450 liver enzymes. This may alter the effectiveness or safety of prescriptions including blood thinners, anti-seizure medications, and some antidepressants. Disclose all current medications & supplements to your clinician during evaluation.

Liver enzyme monitoring

Elevated liver enzymes have been observed in clinical research on CBD, particularly at higher doses. Your clinician may recommend liver function testing before or during your protocol. Patients with existing liver conditions require additional review.

Not FDA-approved

Compounded cannabinoid formulations are prepared under FDA 503A regulations for individual patients. They are not FDA-approved drugs and have not been evaluated by the FDA for safety, efficacy, or quality in the same way as commercial pharmaceuticals. Compounded medications are prescribed when a clinician determines a commercially available product is not appropriate for a specific patient.
